About Hannah-Joy
привет! I’m Hannah-Joy.
I'm a language enthusiast with a deep love for travel, different cultures, and educational research. Born in The Bahamas, I've always been captivated by the power of language to break down barriers and create connections. Coming from a predominantly monolingual country, I was driven by a desire to learn new languages, even when I didn’t know where to start.
My Journey 🌎
Since 2019, I’ve dedicated myself to immersing in languages and developing effective learning methods. I've learned over five languages to varying levels and have conducted research studies focused on language learning strategies and cognitive processes. This passion led me to pursue a PhD in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Memphis, where I work in the Optimal Learning Lab. Here, we apply cognitive research to education and learning, developing models that can be used by instructional software to enhance language learning through strategic practice and scheduling.
My Love for Travel and Teaching 📝
In 2022, I received my TEFL certification and taught English as a second language in Cambodia—a transformative experience that deepened my commitment to pedagogy and making language learning accessible to all. My work aims to merge my love for languages and travel with academic research, focusing on designing language apps and creating innovative solutions within the educational field.
Looking Ahead
My future research is geared toward designing intuitive language learning apps and developing new strategies within academic research to make language learning more efficient and enjoyable for everyone.
